Solar Water Pump Prices in Kenya
What are the solar water pump prices in Kenya? Solar water pumps have been around in Kenya for quite some time now. They have done wonders for many farmers. Fuel and electricity powered water pumps used to be quite expensive, but those days are gone. Most Kenyans are now shifting to solar water pumps to save them from the high costs that come with pumping water.
But how do we know which solar water pump is best for us? How can we know the solar water pump prices and thus budget our finances in preparation for their purchase?
Well, we determine our solar water pump prices by finding out from the client the following things:
- Depth of the borehole, well, or pond.
- The water volume required by the client This is the total flow rate per hour.
- We check the distance from the water source to the storage tank and use this information to determine the total head needed for your solar water pumping system.
Solar water pump prices vary depending on the above factors.
What determines Solar Water Pump Prices in Kenya
Solar water pumps are attractive in Kenya due to their ability to save our pockets from the monthly financial obligation of expenses. They are also a form of new technology, and everybody loves new technology. Once installed on the farm, all your neighbors will come out fascinated, full of inquiries about how much such a system cost you.
The thing is, not all solar water pumps have the same price. Solar water pump prices depend on model type and functionality.
There types of solar water pumps in Kenya are;
- Brush type solar water pumps.
- Brushless solar water pump.
- Electric water pumps converted to solar using inverters.
Brush Type Solar Water Pumps
When the water pump is working, the coil and commutator rotate, and the magnet and carbon brush do not rotate. The alternating current direction of the coil is completed by the commutator and brush as the motor rotates. As long as the motor rotates, the carbon brush will wear out. When the computer’s water pump runs to a certain extent, the carbon brush wear gap becomes larger, and the sound will increase accordingly. After hundreds of hours of continuous operation, the carbon brush will need replacement.
Advantages: Low cost
Disadvantages: Brushes run out after 2 years and have to be replaced. Then they continue operating adain. Cost of brushes is Ksh 1000.
An example of a solar water pump that uses brushes is this model. The price range of the pump alone is below Ksh 25,000.
Brushless Solar Water Pumps
The brushless solar water pump adopts electronic component reversing, so there is no need to use carbon brush reversing. It adopts a high-performance wear-resistant ceramic shaft and a ceramic shaft sleeve. The shaft sleeve has been intergrated with a magnet through injection molding so as to avoid wear. This greatly enhances the life span of the brushless solar magnetic pump.
Advantages: No maintainance in regard to brushes. Motor is standardized.
Disadvantage: Expensive
Here is an example of a pump that is brushless. The cost of a pump ranges between Ksh 36,000 – Ksh 60,000
Electric water pumps converted to solar using inverters.
These pumps are just as the title states. They are normal electric water pumps that have been converted to use solar water pumps.
Advantages: You get to use your existing water pump and simply convert it to solar.
Disadvantages: The inverter and solar panels used will be quite expensive. This is because you will use a lot of solar panels which are currently not cost friendly if you buy many.
